Best way to lose weight anyone?

After looking at photo's of myself that were taken this last weekend I've come to the conclusion that I'm nearing what I like to call the "just shoot me" weight.

Jer and I have talked about ever getting to a certain weight, and my plead to him if I were to ever reach it is to "just shoot me"... he of course argues that there is no way in He** that he could do that. My fear is that my body will revolt and do it for him, not necessarily through shooting, but more likely through diabetes or heart problems.

Holy crappola I'm heavy. The person I picture in my head is in no way shape or form the person that comes out in pictures. Where did she GO!?!? And DOG GONE IT, it's time to find her again!! No more misses "I think I'll exercise." Now it's misses "I'm going to the doctor to get some REAL recommendations, and possibly a gym membership, and letting myself on the computer ONLY if I have ALREADY exercised!"

Time to get out a chart and some stickers to mark those times that I've exercise so I can tell myself "Yah! I've done really good!" or "crap I suck! Time to get on it again!". Maybe that way I won't fall off the wagon and just stay off, maybe then I'll be inclined to jump right back on. maybe.

If that doesn't work? I honestly don't know. Hire a personal trainer? And possibly talk to a nutritionist to see what the crap I need to do about food intake? Maybe if my pocketbook feels it, it will be more painful NOT to exercise.

So... what have you found works best for loosing weight? Have you ever been REALLY overweight (you know, more than 20lbs) and recovered from it? How? Did you ever worry that by exercising to hard you might have a stroke/aneurysm? How the crap do you gradually work UP to a good exercise when you just want to make sure you ARE exercising?

Ugh.

I HAVE to fix this BEFORE my children learn my bad habits in a way that THEY struggle with it.

Good, good questions. I, too, need to get on the exercise bandwagon. There were a couple of girls in my ward talking about when they hit 30 they instantly gained 15 or so pounds. Ugh-like the freshman 15 all over again! I keep thinking I need to get up before the kids do and exercise, or maybe do it after they go to bed...something! Grr. And I'm too cheap/can't afford a gym place. If you figure it all out, let me know! Pete and I both really need to start exercising.

Good luck on this one. I looked back over your lake photos. It looked like lots of fun! I wish we got out more to do stuff like this. Your kids are getting so big! I barely recognize Missy in the hair photo on your sidebar! =)

If you can afford it, I've heard that Weight Watchers is the only thing that provides real results, and helps you to make life changes in food choices. I've never been able to afford it, so I run on my treadmill half an hour a day to maintain. To lose, I have to run for an hour a day. It sucks so hard core. If I could control my Coke/sweets addiction, I wouldn't have to work so hard. I had to start really slowly - run one minute, walk five minutes, run one minute, walk five minutes, etc. And then I worked my way up. I lost about 20 pounds when I was prego, because I was so sick, and then I lost five more through exercise. I'd love to lose 15 more, but I don't want to run an hour a day again. :) Good luck, Apes. I hate, hate, hate having to worry about weight. I get really jealous of girls who don't have to. It's frustrating. It took me several years of being miserable with my body before I was finally ready to make the commitment to work out. I still hate it every day, but I hate feeling fat even more. So I do it. And also because I'm OCD. I have to work out six days a week or my brain picks at itself: "You missed a workout. You missed a workout...."

I went from a pants size 10 down to size 4, shirt size large down to a size small in two and a half months. I followed the Body for Life lifestyle. www.bodyforlife.com
The book (by Bill Phillips) is an easy read and reading other people's success stories gets you excited. In fact, the 2008 male grand master champion for the Body for Life challenge was Colby Knight, a teacher at Idaho Falls High School. You can find his story on the website.
In short, you work out six days a week, three (20 minute) cardio workouts, and three (45 minute) weight lifting workouts. On the seventh day, you have a day of rest and you eat whatever you want. The first couple of weeks were hard, but then my body adjusted.
I lost a massive amount of weight and even had beautiful abs, and found myself craving my workouts. My problem was that I became too skinny, everyone told me to put on some weight, so I got lazy and stopped working out and it took an entire year before I finally started putting it back on. Anyway, I'm going to start up again because I'm gaining and having weird stupid body aches, I hate getting old.
If you want to talk more about it, give me a call!!! I can email you my phone number, I'd love to have someone to get excited about losing weight with again.

Loni I would love that, plus having someone else that has to work around kids to do it with would be good too :)
