New Ward

So today we went to our (soon to be) new ward. Our house is supposed to be closing on Wednesday... guess I should probably start getting things like the phone etc switched over eh? Can we say PROCRASTINATION!?

Anywho, So we went to our new church today. It's an older building so I'm not very familiar with the set up... right after we sat down for Sacrament meeting I found that the lady that was sitting directly in front of us was the Relief Society President! What luck! She made sure I knew who the Primary President was so that I could make sure to get the kids where they needed to be. This was very handy to say the least :)

Sacrament was very loud.... due to loads of kids (yay, for potential friends for MY kidlets!) And it was nice because I wasn't so self conscious of how loud my kids were being. They really aren't that loud usually, but in my In-Laws ward the kids that sit behind where we usually sit are ANGELS.... and if you don't think five kids can sit REALLY quietly through a full hour and fifteen minute meeting then you REALLY need to visit my In-Laws ward. (Apparently, according to my Mother-in-law, their mom lets them have 3 scoops of ice cream for dessert on Sundays... but every time they have to be told to be quiet during Sacrament Meeting they loose a scoop.) It was nice not to be so paranoid about my kids being annoying to others.

Anywho. Everyone that talked to us seemed really nice. Though I noticed that very few of the ward members actually comment in Gospel Doctrine and Relief Society. And for those of you that know me... I can't keep my mouth shut for very long :) So I felt like I was commenting too much. Jer went with The Energizer Bunny to Nursery (he is officially in Nursery in two weeks). I told Jer that I would come back and switch or check on him during my meetings... he was fine with that, but when I went back to check on him neither he nor The Energizer Bunny was in the room. Hmmmm. I just figured that the little one got really tired and grumpy and Jer had to take him out. I was wrong :) which isn't too uncommon lol. Turns out that they have three different nurseries and they rotate them through three different rooms. One room is for toys, one for spiritual (lesson etc), and one for snacks. So this would explain why I couldn't find them. Missy was easy to find after church, Goober on the other hand was NOT.... I still don't know where he class ended up! But Jer found him by our coats so that is good.

It's so hard to tell what a ward is like at first glance. Hard to tell the dynamics. It would be so nice if all of that was apparent right up front, but it's all a learning game. I hope I can find some good friends for the kids near our new house soon though. Especially where Goober is going to continue to go to his school till the end of the year, even though our house is in another schools boundaries. I sometimes wonder if this is the best decision because school is one of the best places to make new friends, but I hesitate to move him mid year. I dunno, I guess we will see how it works out. If after a while of living in the new house Goober wants to go to the new school I don't think I would hold him back from doing that. I'm just too new at the whole school thing to have a really good idea as to what to do as far as pros and cons for keeping him in the same school vs moving him... ya know?

Oh well, I guess that goes a long with all the other uncertainties of moving eh? :D

Oh, I hope your new ward is great! Moving is hard. We'll be moving in July, but we'll actually be in the same ward, which we're excited about.

Good luck with everything!

Moving is so.... bleh. I try to make it exciting in my head, but really it's just a lot of work and uncomfortable situations, such as going to a new ward for the first time, usually by myself. I am sure you guys will fit in just fine. You are very likeable people with very cute kids. :D Who wouldn't love you??!!

Any good tips for house-showing? I am really concerned about being able to keep it clean enough. I mean, it's usually satisfactory, but rarely white glove clean, like I feel it should be for showing. I can't see in my head how it's all going to work out. My realtor said she could give me 30 minutes notice, and I was like THIRTY MINUTES?! Are you crazy? I need like an hour and a half! *sigh* Please! Give me all of your secrets! OH, and about the school thing... I think you are right to wait and see what Goober wants. He may make new friends in the neighborhood and demand to go to school with them. :D Good luck!

Are you in the Virlow bldg? It's way confusing in there, if you are. Though you could be in the one on Lincoln...Hm.

It's kind of exciting, but kind of scary, to move. I'm glad that you kind of found your way around thus far. And I agree with Erica-you guys are so friendly and outgoing, I'm sure you'll make friends in no time.

I know that when my parents moved after my kindergarten year (where I started 1st grade at Long.), I was a little intimidated, because not only are you going for the full day, but I didn't know anyone at first. But I would ask Goober and see what he says. Though I have no idea what all you have to do to transfer schools and all that.

I can't wait to see your new place! Let me know if I can help unpack, or whatever.

So, where is your new house anyway? Or are you still keeping that a secret so people like me don't drop by unannounced? :)

Oh, and I hate going to new wards. Hate it. The Husband has had to physically drag me to church every time we have changed wards. We've been in 7 different wards since we got married. This May is actually the longest we have ever been in the same ward...3 years and counting! Whoopee!

Apes, I'm so, so, so glad you're going to be in your own house again. And that is a conundrum - whether to transfer Goober mid-year or save it for next year. I'd say save it for next year. Kidlets have such a hard time adjusting; it will be hard enough to get used to another house. Just my two cents.

Good luck with the whole move. And I was pretty traumatized the only time I moved in my childhood, between kindergarten and first grade. I hated it, and never want to do that to my kids. But maybe Goober's not like me. I'm sure you'll make the best decision for him, though. I hope you like your new ward, too. We miss you around here! =)
