Cake Wrecks...

Okay, most of you know I'm not really keen on cooking. I really don't like it much, I tend to use mixes or pick easy fast recipes if I do cook. Either that or Jer cooks.... cause he likes it.

Well, on Friday I decided that we would do a get together for Missy's birthday... just family, you know the routine!

Anyhow, on Friday morning I clean, clean, cleaned the house (cause it was narsty and looked like the filth-monster had come and vomited all over and that is just embarrassing with the in-laws and everyone comes over!). Somewhere in the middle of all of that I got Missy up so that she could get ready and then help me make her cake. She had expressly asked if she could help the day before and I said yes... so, we mixed the cake (cause I was very non-molly and bought a mix from Voldemort) and shoveled it into the oven and I set the timer.

Missy and Turbo went downstairs to watch the Incredibles while I started to clean the narsty bathrooms...

40 minutes later my timer goes off.... and I take the cake out of the oven (burning my thumb in the process, see I told you I had skill!). I took a look at the cake and thought "that doesn't look right...." and then I raced off to take Missy to preschool with her store bought treats for her classmates and went to lunch with my mom. Once I got home I showed mom the cake and said "I don't think it raised..." and she reaffirmed my thoughts with a definite... "Nope, didn't raise! But that's okay, I'm sure it tastes fine."

So after I went to pick Missy up from preschool and Goober got off the bus I loaded everyone into the van and headed back to Voldemort... and bought another cake mix, but a different brand... because HEY! The last one was FAIL. Then we all headed home and I made the cake again, put it in the oven and went beck to cleaning....

This time the cake did rise. Unfortunately it didn't cool fast enough though and I tried to get it out of the bundt pan before it was ready because, dangit people were going to be coming soon!

Yah, then commenced the cake wreck. I even said it was a cake wreck, which triggered Missy's tears... I quickly told her it would taste great and that I would still let her put the sprinkles on it! Because Missy really wanted to put the sprinkles on something...Which meant I had to try to frost the narsty thing...

At least she had fun pouring the sprinkles on it... and I wasn't in the least tempted to micro manage that, it was unlikely that the poor girl could make it any worse than it already was....

So I quickly called my mom and had her pick up a cake!

Much better! Happy Birthday again Missy!

Mwhahaha!

Pfffft. Those of you know me, know that I DON'T COOK! :D I really kinda detest it. Actually, it's not the cooking part I detest, it's the fact that I have to come up for stuff to cook for every meal.

So when I was looking around on different websites today and clicked over to one of my favorites, Mormon Mommy Blogs, I had to crack up. It has me miscategorized under "People Who Cook Stuff" ... ROFL I have to say, you got the wrong girl. Any other girl might be encouraged to try. Nope. Not me. I'm stubborn like that.

Anyone want some Ramen?

Cooking

OK, if you know me well, you know I hate to cook. No, let me rephrase that. I ABHOR cooking. Baking... that's OK. Desserts are great fun, but for some reason God decided to have me marry a man that doesn't like most desserts. THAT'S RIGHT! I can make heavenly brownies and he won't touch them. I will eat half of the pan myself if not most of it. If it weren't for the kids, I would be eating all of it. So if I ever want brownies I'd better be sure that I'm prepared to eat it all or throw away (gah! Sacrilege!) at least half of it.

As a kid I was spoiled. And by spoiled I mean I never had to do chore or cook or anything. I loved it! The thing was though... I never learned how to properly clean or cook due to lack of practice. You may think I should include laundry, but I got that down in high school... I mean how hard is it to sort and throw in a machine with detergent? anywho, when I got married I was a bit overwhelmed.

Cleaning was pretty straight forward for the most part and I was forced to learn that pretty quickly due to the fact that I hate filth. And due to the fact that I was preggo with Gavin by about a year after we got married. Babies will teach you how to clean... FAST.

Cooking on the other hand you can kind of flub.

Box dinners and such... especially if there are only 2 of you who really eat anything. I mean, how many recipes only make for 2? And if by chance you make something neither of you like... heaven forbid it stays FOREVER. So learning to cook with two of you is the pits. And then having a picky eater hubby makes it a little more difficult. Especially if you want to learn to cook healthy. Ha!

Well, I'm so proud of myself tonight! I made a meal. A meal that wasn't out of a box and that I actually had to chop stuff for! Can I say, I love Rachael Ray?

Tonight's dinner....

Meatloaf (good too, not that CRAP a tried to make a few weeks ago)
Real Mashed Potatoes (think I'll leave out the scallions next time)
and Green Beans :)

And the coolest thing about it? The WHOLE FAMILY would eat it! Yay!
