Elder Marlin Jensen apologized for Prop 8.
Interesting to say the least.
I'm sure it took a great deal of love and courage for him to say that... even if the apology was a personal one and not an institutional one. To seemingly step out of line with the opinion that the Church seems to be putting forward could cost him dearly, but I'm glad he did it. Even if all it accomplishes is showing people that holding your own opinion separate from the Church is not an indication that a person is "evil" in some way.
You may be surprised how many people are vilified, and their testimonies questioned (even if they are strong testimonies... I know a few liberal Mormons who are constantly having people question their faith) for being in disagreement on political issues.
Anyhow, thought some of the rest of you might be interested.

You know how in "the last days" there is supposed to be "no gray" areas? Well, for me, Prop8 is "gray". I don't support it but I'm not opposed to it. I just am in the middle. I think you made a valid point a while back about marriage and religion and I agreed with you. However, I think Elder Jensen wasn't apologizing for Prop8. I think that's a misleading title. Courageous and heartfelt, yes, but I think he was apologizing more for the hurt and suffering caused by it. I am certain at least the first presidency agonizes over the whole thing. No debate, but JMHO.:)
See to me there isn't much difference between an apology for the pain it caused or an apology for it itself.
Thanks for sharing your opinion :) I'm sure The FP does agonize over it ... I think it stirred up a hornets nest that they didn't intend to disturb quit so badly.
:D
What's JMHO? And it took me forever to realize that FP is First Presidency. Duhhhh.
Just My Humble (or Honest) Opinion. :)
