Warm weather....

around here means that mom slathers the kidlets in sunscreen (yes they ALL BURN ... well, sometimes Missy tans, but just lightly) and forces the kidlets and herself to GO OUTSIDE!

Heaven forbid.

Today I went and got a year pass to our zoo. Which is little, but growing, and the pass includes either discounts or free passage to other zoos too, which isn't bad! The only bad part was the Goober was complaining nearly the whole time about needing to sit down, or needing a drink. I really do need to get him moving more....

I am bound and determined this year that we will be outside more, and getting more exercise.

Enjoying the sun when the weather is favorable... and hopefully getting enough things in order to be able to grow a garden. Hopefully. It may be next year before I'm able to do that.

EB seemed to really enjoy the zoo though, as did Missy. On the way home he konked out but he was good while we were at the zoo... and while I was moving the stroller. You know how it goes :)
.
Anyhow, I'm so glad the weather was beautiful today! This the the weather I want ALL SUMMER LONG. Warm enough to enjoy but not so hot I melt!
.
Crossing my finger that this weekend won't be as bad as they say it will be.

I am so thankful that my children are friends.

This morning after Jer and Goober left for work and school I was one the computer and Tinkerbell was playing away in the background. As I was engrossed in doing whatever it was that I was doing it came to my attention that Missy was pretending to read a book.

I looked over to see the above picture :) She was trying to read a book to EB. How cute is that!? I'm so glad that they get along most of the time. Granted they do fight sometimes. Mostly Missy accusing EB of saying something that he doesn't yet know how to say. But, heck, sibling are bound to fight. And sometimes when the bickering gets to the point that my sanity about flies out the window I have to remind myself of that.

This afternoon we went over the Gma S's house so that Goober could have a chance to play with some friends. Goober and Missy decided to go together to a friends house. As they skipped and played their way slowly to their friends house I watched in the summer like weather and thought about how nice it is that they play together so well, in fact Goober seldom likes to go to friends houses without Missy coming along.

I hope and pray that my children's friendships with each other lasts their whole lives long. How wonderful would that be?

Kids Watching Tinkerbell

I love it when they are agreeable and not bickering! :)

Oh Goodness, the things men say!

A little back story.

I really try to discourage my children from using "potty" humor. You know, like saying "poop" for no good reason outside of just getting a laugh out of their siblings.

I try to explain to them that the only time you should refer to things like that is when there is a reason.... aka they have to use the potty. They need to say their "bum" hurts cause they fell on something, or some other good reason.

Yeah, I think I need to start lecturing my husband on these SAME THINGS. Ugh.

Here is what happened today.

After dinner Missy asks Jer if he will play with her My Little Ponies with her.

He agrees and the following ensues:

Missy: pretending like My Little Pony is talking "My hair is Soooooo beautiful!"

Jer: Pretending like his My Little Pony is talking "My hair is beautiful too, but sometimes it gets in my face."

Missy:"My tail is beautiful too!"

Jer:"My tail is beatiful too, but sometimes I get poo in it"

UMMMMM EWWWWW

I almost spit the Squirt I was drinking all over my NEWLY MOPPED kitchen floor.

Me:"Why did you just say THAT?"

Jer:"Ummmm your reaction was the best part."

Ugh. MEN.

Oh, and for future reference Missy, PLEASE don't ask your father to do "girlie" things he will ALWAYS end up doing something that mortifies mom.

Oh the power of GRANDPARENTS!

So for a while now Missy has been able to put on her own socks and shoes.... riiiiight? Unfortunately she hasn't been able to get down the whole turning the sock right side in bit. Jer and I had showed her MULTIPLE times. Each without much success.

Every time she would go to get on her socks she would inevitably end up with "Mooooooom, I CAN'T do IT!" and if we pushed the issue she could potentially end up in tears. Fun fun.... actually, not so fun!

Well, we (the kids and I) went up to my parents house for a quick visit and as we were about to leave we came across the same issue again. I sighed and told her just a minute (because I was helping the little guy with his shoes and socks.)

Thankfully my dad jumps in to help. As he started to show her how to make her socks be right side in, I have to be honest, my thoughts were somewhere along the line of "and she will forget before next time" or "seems kinda pointless to show her again." *can you tell my mood wasn't so great?* Anywho, dad proceeded to show her the whole process again and have her do it right after.

And the next time we went to get on shoes and socks... guess what? SHE GOT IT!

What is it about grandparents that makes what they teach so much more memorable!? :) Anyways, I'm thankful for it. Thanks dad!

Happy to go to Church!

So yesterday I took my two older kids shopping for new church clothes... I should have taken EB too but he has had the Crud this week and I figured a nap would be good for him...

Anyhow, Goober was NOT very pleased with me for dragging him shopping, while Missy was all girl and was excited to go. :) Needless to say, they were happy to go to church today (they would have been happy to go anyways due to the "friend making" opportunities that church brings about).

So here is Goober in his new duds:

And Missy in one of her new dresses:

And here is EB (he didn't go to church today due to aforementioned Crudiness) just cause he's cute and I kinda feel bad not including his picture when I included one of both of his older siblings)
Notice the length of his hair, pretty long I know, but I just can't bring myself to cut it!!! I have before, but now it's more thick and I think of all of the trendy possibilities I have there. For any of you that have ever touched Goobers hair, you know that his hair is course and thick and that only short, shorty, short hair really works on him due to it being incredibly stubborn on top of it. Well, EB's hair is not as course and seems to have potential for actually laying down when I comb it with water... so I guess we shall see. I know, I know... I'm over thinking the whole 18 month old hairstyles thing. But where I've never had brothers, I've always been a girl (GASP!), and Goobers hair is so very uncooperative, I see potential for experimenting where I haven't been able to before.... MwhaHAHAHA!
Ok, so this post has now degenerated to the point that I feel the need to cease and desist. So TATA!

Random, Randomness.... and Some Pictures.

So after spending a few hours trying to find all the essentials for living at the new house I gave up for a while and headed back to Grandma S's house.... well, giving up was part of it, the other part was the fact that Goober was going to be home from school soon and I had no clue if anyone would be home to meet him outside of myself.

Today was my In-Laws 30Th anniversary so my father-in-law took the day off, slept in, and followed my mother-in-law around on errands all day. Oh, and they managed to stop by Leatherby's for ice cream too :) Yummm.

After lunch and homework time Goober and Missy decided to go see if friends could play and the Energizer Bunny went down for a recharge. And I, for a change, resisted the urge to do something "productive" and also got a chance for a small recharge :) Yippy... I woke up to EG fussing through the monitor and as soon as I brought him upstairs I noticed Missy walking past the window on her way home, Goober was right in front of her.

I must say the timing was perfect. So nice to get a little well needed sleep. Especially since I've been suffering with a retched cough. And by "retched" I mean RETCHED. I've been sleeping in a separate room from Jer cause I feel bad for the poor guy having to try to sleep through my HACKING. At least it seems to be on the way out though. Maybe it's the obscene amounts of vitamin C I've been ingesting....

The Energizer Bunny has taken a great interest in blankets lately. LOVES them. No, I take that back.... He loves walking around with them draped over his head blocking all vision and causing him to crash into random objects regularly. :)

Here is a picture of him bringing a blanket to me so that I can put it over his head.... though he can do this himself, I guess I'm much more proficient at it.

He has also taken to sucking on his fingers..... er, finger mostly, sometimes a couple. Usually it's just his index finger shoved in his mouth as though he is trying to poke a hole in something. The whole finger sucking thing was something that I'd hoped he would avoid. Goober sucks on his index and middle fingers when he is tired, upset, or bored, and Missy sucks on her thumb (while at the same time sticking her index finger up her nose.... fun fun.). Anyhow, hopefully EG won't get too stuck on it since he has only recently started sucking on his finger while his siblings both started when they were really young.

Tonight Missy was being hilarious. I think that she must take after he mother... boy does she know how to pester and tease. It seems to come second nature to her. Image THAT?!?! :) Goober was trying to play Lego Batman and Missy was intent that he not be able to focus on it! He insisted on laying on him, poking at him, and squishing his cheeks till the both ended up in peels of laughter therefore fulfilling her objective. She did it again and again until bedtime. I'm so glad that they can play that way and not end up in a fight (sometimes at least). My kids crack me up. So fun to watch. I'm so glad they are such good friends!

And that is all for the random randomness for today :)

Nicknames. UGH

My kids have issues.

Ok, I think you all knew that... I mean COME ON! Look at who their mother is. :) And if you need to look at the rest of the family go right ahead.... we are all a little odd.

Anywho.... onto the topic at hand.

My kids have issues. They have issues with nicknames.

Let me give you a warning:
DO NOT CALL MY CHILDREN ANYTHING BUT THEIR GIVEN NAMES (to their faces... hahaha, I know I'm evil!) They do have a couple of nicknames from birth that they allow, but even most enduring nicknames are out of bounds Buster!

Here is a scenario to illustrate....

Me (Speaking to Missy): Hiya Goldilocks!

Missy: I NOT Goldilocks!!!

Me: But you have golden hair.

Missy: NO! My hair is NOT Golden!!!

Me: Alllllllrightythen.....

(I then drop conversation because it's not worth the battle that would ensue)

Want another??? M'kay...

Gma S (speaking to Goober): Fred come here.

Goober: My names not Fred.

Gma S: (teasing): Okay George. Please come here...

Goober: My name is GOOBER.

Gma: Come here please.

Goober: MY NAME IS NOT GEORGE. MY NAME IS GOOBER.

Gma S: OK Goober, Please come over here.

Goober goes over to Gma S and Gma talks to him for a bit then
slips in a non kosher nickname...

Goober: MY NAME IS GOOBER!!!!!! (yelling)

Gma S: I know your name is Goober, please stop yelling.

she then proceeds to give him a hug to comfort him.

I later asked her about this exchange because I watched it wondering who would back down first about something so asinine (I like that word lately!). She wanted to know if there was a point at which he would back down.

MWHAHAHAHA!!! BACK DOWN?!?! Does she not realize who his MOTHER is and that as a kid he doesn't pick battles yet but fights everything under the sun? And this includes when people FULLY agree with him and he thinks they don't for some random reason...

I then informed her that no, he never backs down on the name thing. Never. He will pitch a fit and end up in Time Out just as his little sister would.... yes, over a goofy name that isn't the least bit negative.

I hate to think about if someone called them something negative.... and they realized it was negative.... Would they react the same way?

Probably.

Since Goober has a new good friend that he likes to play with, there are times that Missy feels a little left out. Like when Goober and Bee go to play at Bee's house for a while... and Missy isn't invited.

It's not that Missy doesn't play well with the kids here... just that Bee is Goober's Friend and is an only child. Bee doesn't really get the whole younger sibling thing and I think she gets overloaded sometimes with Missy tagging along in their play, so she wants to go play with Goober at her house.

With Goober being our oldest child I, as a parent, have never had to deal with this before. Also, I am 5 years younger than my closest sibling... so I don't remember how my parents dealt with this.

I need to find Missy her own friend that lives nearby, but don't know of any yet.

For you "seasoned" parents out there... and for you not so "seasoned" that have good ideas.... what do/would you do with this situation?

Do you SEE that?

Missy My is a cute girl. I love her to death. She is my cuddly child. The one who can't live without oodles of hugs and kisses. Always wants to be on my lap or clobbering me with a giant hug. She is definitely a mamma's girl. (which is nice most of the time).

She pulls the funniest faces and is getting better with her language skills everyday.

There is one thing (ok maybe more... I admit it!) that I can't get past. See this itty bitty picture down here?

Wanna know why it's so small when usually my pictures are so huge? Her hair is cute and everything (which is the reason I took the picture... to document that hairstyle).

So why is it small? Have you not noticed? .... wow, you are oblivious.

Check out where her finger is. And while you are at it, notice where her thumb is. She does this absentmindedly a lot. HOW she does this ABSENTMINDEDLY... I must admit, I do not know. I would think either her nostril or her thumb would hurt because of the angle at which she has to keep them to have them stuck in holes that are so close in proximity.

I didn't want to make this picture huge and totally shove that image up your nose :)

She has done this since she was a baby. Seriously, she sucked her thumb in utero. The finger didn't take long after she was born to find it's "cozy little place" either.

We are currently working on the thumb sucking (it's making her slightly bucktoothed...) by telling her it's "yucky" and that it hurts her teeth and her thumb. This works ok for the most part... she stops sucking on it when it's brought to her attention most of the time.

I'm hoping and praying the finger up the nose business just sort of follows along.

Anyone else know of any kids that do this???

With a spoon!!!

Gah!

So last night at about 11 pm Missy My woke up crying... she was too tired to tell me what about so I tucked her back in and assumed it was a nightmare.

Fast Forward to this morning.
Missy wakes up crying again.... but this time shes awake enough to tell me "Wannit Off!

Turns out she had a clear pony tail holder on her wrist all night! Not only was her wrist very red but her hand was puffy too. GAH!

She does this once in a while, but usually I catch it before she had it on her wrist for too long. Having them be not clear helps a bit. Her hand still works fine and the puffiness has mostly gone away along with the redness... (the picture was taken 5 min after I took the holder off). Hopefully she will remember NOT to put those things on her wrist anymore. :P

Obsessed Much?

Ok I admit I'm a little obssessed much on the hair front lately. I figure that with Missy's hair long I can start to do fun things with it and she is now getting old enough she will actually sit still. YAY. I know I won't be excited about this forever so I might as well enjoy it while I am... right? :D

A little over proud.

K so I must admit, I'm more proud of this "Do" than I should be. But for someone who has a hard time getting a certain young child to sit still, I think I did a great job... just wish I had some cute ribbons to go in it.... mmmm must start scheming to get some! :D

Sunday, August 3, 2008

Hopefully it lasts till church! :D

So today I took the time to actually "do" Missy My's hair. She was actually really cooperative :) I blowdried it, used a curling iron, and everything. She was SOOOO good. Her hair on the other hand didn't really want to cooperate, but I think it turned out pretty cute anyways.

It's muggy.

I'm not terribly fond of heat...let alone with the humidity... but we went to the park today with Mr M and his mom Lissa. It was pretty fun if sweat inducing.

Family!

So because my family reunion is thisweekend my Brother-in-law Whatshisbucket and his two kidlets (Miss Thang and Qwerty) are in town. Needless to say my kids idolize their cousins and really have fun playing with them. :)

My kidlets follow Qwerty and Miss Thang around like puppy dogs.

Bling

So this morning at 10 am I finally decided Missy My had slept in long enough... I know she is a night owl, but when her little brother goes down for his morning nap and is starting to move around to wake up again and she is STILL not up, it's too much.

So I go into her room and what do I find?

Her buck naked except for....

HER JEWELRY

What am I raising?!?!? Lady Godiva????

My Husbands Sense of Humor!

Yeah, Missy didn't do that on her own.... but somehow it reminds me of another little kid... when he was little he got a picture taken of him that is similar to this. Could it be? Yes, that would be Jer. He has a picture of himself as a child with balls in his shirt to make him look "busty". I guess even when they are little men are obsessed with them.
