Warm weather....
Heaven forbid.
Today I went and got a year pass to our zoo. Which is little, but growing, and the pass includes either discounts or free passage to other zoos too, which isn't bad! The only bad part was the Goober was complaining nearly the whole time about needing to sit down, or needing a drink. I really do need to get him moving more....
I am bound and determined this year that we will be outside more, and getting more exercise.

I am so thankful that my children are friends.
I looked over to see the above picture :) She was trying to read a book to EB. How cute is that!? I'm so glad that they get along most of the time. Granted they do fight sometimes. Mostly Missy accusing EB of saying something that he doesn't yet know how to say. But, heck, sibling are bound to fight. And sometimes when the bickering gets to the point that my sanity about flies out the window I have to remind myself of that.
This afternoon we went over the Gma S's house so that Goober could have a chance to play with some friends. Goober and Missy decided to go together to a friends house. As they skipped and played their way slowly to their friends house I watched in the summer like weather and thought about how nice it is that they play together so well, in fact Goober seldom likes to go to friends houses without Missy coming along.
I hope and pray that my children's friendships with each other lasts their whole lives long. How wonderful would that be?

Oh Goodness, the things men say!
I really try to discourage my children from using "potty" humor. You know, like saying "poop" for no good reason outside of just getting a laugh out of their siblings.
I try to explain to them that the only time you should refer to things like that is when there is a reason.... aka they have to use the potty. They need to say their "bum" hurts cause they fell on something, or some other good reason.
Yeah, I think I need to start lecturing my husband on these SAME THINGS. Ugh.
Here is what happened today.
After dinner Missy asks Jer if he will play with her My Little Ponies with her.
He agrees and the following ensues:
Missy: pretending like My Little Pony is talking "My hair is Soooooo beautiful!"
Jer: Pretending like his My Little Pony is talking "My hair is beautiful too, but sometimes it gets in my face."
Missy:"My tail is beautiful too!"
Jer:"My tail is beatiful too, but sometimes I get poo in it"
UMMMMM EWWWWW
I almost spit the Squirt I was drinking all over my NEWLY MOPPED kitchen floor.
Me:"Why did you just say THAT?"
Jer:"Ummmm your reaction was the best part."

Oh the power of GRANDPARENTS!
Every time she would go to get on her socks she would inevitably end up with "Mooooooom, I CAN'T do IT!" and if we pushed the issue she could potentially end up in tears. Fun fun.... actually, not so fun!
Well, we (the kids and I) went up to my parents house for a quick visit and as we were about to leave we came across the same issue again. I sighed and told her just a minute (because I was helping the little guy with his shoes and socks.)
Thankfully my dad jumps in to help. As he started to show her how to make her socks be right side in, I have to be honest, my thoughts were somewhere along the line of "and she will forget before next time" or "seems kinda pointless to show her again." *can you tell my mood wasn't so great?* Anywho, dad proceeded to show her the whole process again and have her do it right after.
And the next time we went to get on shoes and socks... guess what? SHE GOT IT!
What is it about grandparents that makes what they teach so much more memorable!? :) Anyways, I'm thankful for it. Thanks dad!

Happy to go to Church!
Anyhow, Goober was NOT very pleased with me for dragging him shopping, while Missy was all girl and was excited to go. :) Needless to say, they were happy to go to church today (they would have been happy to go anyways due to the "friend making" opportunities that church brings about).
So here is Goober in his new duds:

Random, Randomness.... and Some Pictures.
Today was my In-Laws 30Th anniversary so my father-in-law took the day off, slept in, and followed my mother-in-law around on errands all day. Oh, and they managed to stop by Leatherby's for ice cream too :) Yummm.
After lunch and homework time Goober and Missy decided to go see if friends could play and the Energizer Bunny went down for a recharge. And I, for a change, resisted the urge to do something "productive" and also got a chance for a small recharge :) Yippy... I woke up to EG fussing through the monitor and as soon as I brought him upstairs I noticed Missy walking past the window on her way home, Goober was right in front of her.
I must say the timing was perfect. So nice to get a little well needed sleep. Especially since I've been suffering with a retched cough. And by "retched" I mean RETCHED. I've been sleeping in a separate room from Jer cause I feel bad for the poor guy having to try to sleep through my HACKING. At least it seems to be on the way out though. Maybe it's the obscene amounts of vitamin C I've been ingesting....
The Energizer Bunny has taken a great interest in blankets lately. LOVES them. No, I take that back.... He loves walking around with them draped over his head blocking all vision and causing him to crash into random objects regularly. :)
Here is a picture of him bringing a blanket to me so that I can put it over his head.... though he can do this himself, I guess I'm much more proficient at it.

Nicknames. UGH
Ok, I think you all knew that... I mean COME ON! Look at who their mother is. :) And if you need to look at the rest of the family go right ahead.... we are all a little odd.
Anywho.... onto the topic at hand.
My kids have issues. They have issues with nicknames.
Let me give you a warning:
DO NOT CALL MY CHILDREN ANYTHING BUT THEIR GIVEN NAMES (to their faces... hahaha, I know I'm evil!) They do have a couple of nicknames from birth that they allow, but even most enduring nicknames are out of bounds Buster!
Here is a scenario to illustrate....
Me (Speaking to Missy): Hiya Goldilocks!
Missy: I NOT Goldilocks!!!
Me: But you have golden hair.
Missy: NO! My hair is NOT Golden!!!
Me: Alllllllrightythen.....
(I then drop conversation because it's not worth the battle that would ensue)
Want another??? M'kay...
Gma S (speaking to Goober): Fred come here.
Goober: My names not Fred.
Gma S: (teasing): Okay George. Please come here...
Goober: My name is GOOBER.
Gma: Come here please.
Goober: MY NAME IS NOT GEORGE. MY NAME IS GOOBER.
Gma S: OK Goober, Please come over here.
Goober goes over to Gma S and Gma talks to him for a bit then
slips in a non kosher nickname...
Goober: MY NAME IS GOOBER!!!!!! (yelling)
Gma S: I know your name is Goober, please stop yelling.she then proceeds to give him a hug to comfort him.
I later asked her about this exchange because I watched it wondering who would back down first about something so asinine (I like that word lately!). She wanted to know if there was a point at which he would back down.
MWHAHAHAHA!!! BACK DOWN?!?! Does she not realize who his MOTHER is and that as a kid he doesn't pick battles yet but fights everything under the sun? And this includes when people FULLY agree with him and he thinks they don't for some random reason...
I then informed her that no, he never backs down on the name thing. Never. He will pitch a fit and end up in Time Out just as his little sister would.... yes, over a goofy name that isn't the least bit negative.
I hate to think about if someone called them something negative.... and they realized it was negative.... Would they react the same way?
Probably.

Since Goober has a new good friend that he likes to play with, there are times that Missy feels a little left out. Like when Goober and Bee go to play at Bee's house for a while... and Missy isn't invited.
It's not that Missy doesn't play well with the kids here... just that Bee is Goober's Friend and is an only child. Bee doesn't really get the whole younger sibling thing and I think she gets overloaded sometimes with Missy tagging along in their play, so she wants to go play with Goober at her house.
With Goober being our oldest child I, as a parent, have never had to deal with this before. Also, I am 5 years younger than my closest sibling... so I don't remember how my parents dealt with this.
I need to find Missy her own friend that lives nearby, but don't know of any yet.
For you "seasoned" parents out there... and for you not so "seasoned" that have good ideas.... what do/would you do with this situation?

Do you SEE that?
She pulls the funniest faces and is getting better with her language skills everyday.
There is one thing (ok maybe more... I admit it!) that I can't get past. See this itty bitty picture down here?
Wanna know why it's so small when usually my pictures are so huge? Her hair is cute and everything (which is the reason I took the picture... to document that hairstyle).
So why is it small? Have you not noticed? .... wow, you are oblivious.
I didn't want to make this picture huge and totally shove that image up your nose :)
She has done this since she was a baby. Seriously, she sucked her thumb in utero. The finger didn't take long after she was born to find it's "cozy little place" either.
We are currently working on the thumb sucking (it's making her slightly bucktoothed...) by telling her it's "yucky" and that it hurts her teeth and her thumb. This works ok for the most part... she stops sucking on it when it's brought to her attention most of the time.
I'm hoping and praying the finger up the nose business just sort of follows along.
Anyone else know of any kids that do this???

Gah!
Turns out she had a clear pony tail holder on her wrist all night! Not only was her wrist very red but her hand was puffy too. GAH!
She does this once in a while, but usually I catch it before she had it on her wrist for too long. Having them be not clear helps a bit. Her hand still works fine and the puffiness has mostly gone away along with the redness... (the picture was taken 5 min after I took the holder off). Hopefully she will remember NOT to put those things on her wrist anymore. :P
