Reflecting on 9/11 a little...

Yesterday on the CNN website they have some newly released pictures of the terror attacks on the World Trade Centers. As I was looking at them, These thoughts popped into my head:

Why don't we ever see these pictures anymore?

Is it because someone doesn't want us to remember?

Is it because it's heartbreaking and we don't want to feel that?

Why hasn't something been build there yet?

It has been almost nine years since it happened. And I don't know if any memorial has been completed. I know there were plans for one. Then I remember hearing that it fell through. Something with funding, or the company doing things wrong.

I suspect it probably had something to do with politics. Someone, or many someones feeling that THEY were the ones that needed to make it happen, that no one else should. So they cut down everyone else.

Too many people clamoring for political gain.

So many people willing to use others as stepping stones to "the top".

Even if those stepping stones are the dead or the memories of our dead.

What a shame it has all become.

Not only did the terrorists attack us, but many of our own continue to undermine us to gain "power" or "money".

Always the political mud-fight, felling anyone in their way.

The attitude of "I'm open-minded, but since you don't agree with me... you must be stupid (or bigoted, or any number of negative adjectives)."

Our nations competitiveness is having not so great consequences. Our political parties are calling each other all sorts of horrid things... and the saddest part?

It's bleeding down to the regular every day smo.

And what happens to those who truly stand in the middle, not claiming either parties stances? They are always seen as the "enemy" because their ideals don't fall into a neat little box. They are vilified by both sides of the battle.

Isn't the middle where we should all be standing? Willing to compromise to do what is best for all?

What is happening to the beautiful things our country should be standing for?
It's being divided.

Remember this next time you hear someone with a different point of view:

"United we stand, divided we fall."

P.S they are currently working on a memorial at Ground Zero. After scrapping the first plans for it they have agreed on another set. Hopefully these will be followed through to completion. We will see.

Not much going on over here....

Just mostly sitting around waiting for the tax returns and spring....
have a feeling spring isn't going to be around for a bit, it is after all, Idaho... and February.
Bah.

Sunday Sunday

Did anyone else have a lesson on "Keeping the Sabbath Day Holy"?

I'm sorry, but this is one of the most BORING lessons I have ever gotten. Even I, ME!, didn't have much in the way of comments.... and I'm a FREAKING TALKER!

I have a hard time imagining a peaceful Sunday in our house with only the "approved activities", sorry crayons and coloring books barely last through one hour of meetings. It ain't going to last much longer... Maybe visiting Grandma and Grandpa would work better, then again who knows! My kids can be unpredictable sometimes.

On a brighter note, we had the missionaries over for dinner, those guys are a hoot. Totally crack me up! It was so good to have them, and they even had seconds (so I know my new recipe for Chicken Enchilada's was good to people outside of myself). In fact between our family and the three missionaries we polished off 2 full 9x13 pans of the stuff, the rice, and almost all the corn. Then the got huffy cause I forgot to mention that I had Fat Boy ice cream sandwiches for desert until AFTER we had mostly finished dinner. :)

They really are fun though, I hope I get a chance to have them over for dinner again some time soon, if only for the laughter!

Dear Guy in Front of Barnes & Noble,
When there is a pregnant mother with three well behaved girls trying to getting all of her kids and the double wide stroller out the front entrance and another mom helping her says that "I know having 3 can be a handful." the appropriate thing to say is NOT "it doesn't have to be, you just need to be more aggressive." I mean, COME ON. The girls were being good! What did you want her to do beat the oldest (5 years old at the most) into pushing the younger two in the stroller out the door while mom held it? Give me a break. You apparently never had kids or have long ago forgotten what is was like. In either case, I'm glad you weren't MY father.

Dear Wal-Mart people,
Today I realized why at times I'm tempted to call the store Voldemort. Having the normal set of restrooms at the front of the store and the "family restroom" at the back is kinda inconvenient. Having a sign by the normal one DOES NOT help. I will take my 6 year old son into the regular women's bathroom because by the time we would get to the "family restroom" in the back he would have peed his pants.

Dear Online Gamers,
Just because you are online does not give you license to be total asses to other people. And when you say "I really am a great person in real life" I doubt it. I feel that the anonymity that the Internet gives brings out the true colors of a person. Those are your true colors you are showing when you are being a jerk.

Ohhhhhh the Taxmaaaaaaan.....

Taxes = done. HOORAY!!!!

I love it when I can get them done "early" 'cause then I can promptly forget about them again till next year and focus on my little deductibles more. :)

Oh, contradiction that it seems to be...

I feel that women truly are equals to men, but that the world (and sometimes the Church) perpetuates attitudes that are not in keeping with the fact that women truly are just as capable as men, maybe differently capable but not unequally so.

I hate to use the word "differently" there. Not because it's not true, but because so often it is used to replace more belittling language.

Anyhow, I came across a truly beautiful idea today while reading one of my favorite blogs. This was in a comment that was responding to a post about how to make sure that our children know they have a Mother in Heaven (among other things) when so often She is not mentioned.

A poster with the tag JC stated this:

"...The other night my son, age 11.5, asked me why girls don’t have the priesthood. I asked him why he thought they didn’t, he said he didn’t know - but it wasn’t fair that boys HAD to go on missions and girls get to choose. I told him that girls do have priesthood that they use in the temples and that parents share the priesthood. We talked about how both parents are expected to be good parents, but moms (mostly) seem to spend more time with small children than Dads. This led nicely into a talk about Heavenly Mother. DS has some interesting thoughts about her. He suggested that maybe she is a stay at heaven parent. Maybe earth stuff is Heavenly Father’s “job,” and She is in charge of preparing people to come here and takes care of them when they get back to heaven. He thinks that is a very important job and that HM is in charge of that because people are going to be sad to leave their families here on earth and will need some really big cuddles when they get to heaven. He also thinks that Her favorite colors might be reds and pinks because HF created a LOT of flowers those colors to show his love for her. Maybe She is in charge of the beautiful things on earth that make us happy, like sunsets, snow, cool animals, and that leaves HF some time to deal with other stuff. (As a side note, I help DH with a lot of the paperwork for his job, so doing a job together isn’t a big deal to him.) These are just his thoughts and I think that they are good ones. He doesn’t feel that She loves us any less, maybe more, because we spend lots more time in heaven than on earth..."

What a beautiful idea! To think that it came from an 11 year old astounds me. I like it oh, so much better than the "we don't talk about her to protect her." idea that is so often repeated (almost to the extend of being offensive. Why would a mother need to be protected from her own children?) But this? This idea rings more true for me and brings me more peace of mind.

and doing a give away for a $100 Best Buy card. Droooooool. Sue is da bomb and I always read her... in fact I think she is up on my sidebar, cause I have a girl crush on her.... :)
