Nicknames. UGH

My kids have issues.

Ok, I think you all knew that... I mean COME ON! Look at who their mother is. :) And if you need to look at the rest of the family go right ahead.... we are all a little odd.

Anywho.... onto the topic at hand.

My kids have issues. They have issues with nicknames.

Let me give you a warning:
DO NOT CALL MY CHILDREN ANYTHING BUT THEIR GIVEN NAMES (to their faces... hahaha, I know I'm evil!) They do have a couple of nicknames from birth that they allow, but even most enduring nicknames are out of bounds Buster!

Here is a scenario to illustrate....

Me (Speaking to Missy): Hiya Goldilocks!

Missy: I NOT Goldilocks!!!

Me: But you have golden hair.

Missy: NO! My hair is NOT Golden!!!

Me: Alllllllrightythen.....

(I then drop conversation because it's not worth the battle that would ensue)

Want another??? M'kay...

Gma S (speaking to Goober): Fred come here.

Goober: My names not Fred.

Gma S: (teasing): Okay George. Please come here...

Goober: My name is GOOBER.

Gma: Come here please.

Goober: MY NAME IS NOT GEORGE. MY NAME IS GOOBER.

Gma S: OK Goober, Please come over here.

Goober goes over to Gma S and Gma talks to him for a bit then
slips in a non kosher nickname...

Goober: MY NAME IS GOOBER!!!!!! (yelling)

Gma S: I know your name is Goober, please stop yelling.

she then proceeds to give him a hug to comfort him.

I later asked her about this exchange because I watched it wondering who would back down first about something so asinine (I like that word lately!). She wanted to know if there was a point at which he would back down.

MWHAHAHAHA!!! BACK DOWN?!?! Does she not realize who his MOTHER is and that as a kid he doesn't pick battles yet but fights everything under the sun? And this includes when people FULLY agree with him and he thinks they don't for some random reason...

I then informed her that no, he never backs down on the name thing. Never. He will pitch a fit and end up in Time Out just as his little sister would.... yes, over a goofy name that isn't the least bit negative.

I hate to think about if someone called them something negative.... and they realized it was negative.... Would they react the same way?

Probably.

Can We Say "Asinine"?

Yes, our newspaper here in Podunk Idaho is stupid. Very, very stupid.

I like to call it the COMpost Register...

Anywho, here is a picture from today's paper. Please take a moment to read.

Ummmm Yaaaaaaaah

And how exactly is a notice in today's paper going to inform those people who didn't receive today's paper that they can access the website FREE FOR TODAY?

Hmmmm....

Can anyone explain this to me? :D

Ahhh the joys of small town newspapers and the satisfaction I get when proved yet again why I'm not missing out by not paying for one. (This is my In-Laws paper I photoed, so meh!)

The Question of How to Make a Scarf....

This morning as I ran around doing motherly stuff (aka laundry and pondering grocery shopping) My mother in law decided to attempt to teach Goober how to knit a scarf.

Let me mention that Goober has had a kinda weird fascination with scarfs over the past couple of days.... who knows, it could be the fact that it has been snowing every day for over a week and that just a couple of nights ago it left over ten inches of the fluffy white stuff.

As Gma S started to try to show Goober how to do his scarf I hear her and Aunt Az conversing about exactly how to knit a scarf. There was a bit of confusion about it.

Now, I don't know about you.... but it strikes me as kinda comical that two full grown women are trying to figure this out and still expect a five year old to grasp it :)

He did end up getting the main gist of it and with a bit of assistance every once in a while has been able to make a bit of a scarf.
.
Smart five year old, if I do say so myself! :)

Why Your Wireless Connection Should Be Secure...

As in Password secure people....

Because sneaky people like Jer just might soak up all your Internet speed by using YOUR wireless modem to..... say.....

PLAY WORLD OF WARCRAFT AT WORK.

You see that nifty thing that is up on the shelf? it kinda looks like a soup can. Well, that is a "Cantenna" people. It helps to amplify and stabilize a wireless signal for people who aren't really close to said signal.... I think he's about a block away from the house with the UNSECURED (read "no password required") Internet connection.

Now mind you, Jer is actually doing nothing wrong by using this Internet connection. It's perfectly legal etc etc etc. But if for some reason your Internet is REALLY DEATHLY SLOW during the day (consistently) you may just want to make sure your modem is a secure one :) Because people that have no access to internet at work and are bored between calls just might notice that good ol' unsecured wireless connection.

Sigh...

So we made an offer on another house last night.

We didn't get it. Mostly because someone else gave a slightly better offer within an hour of our offer. :P SNEAKY little people!

Oh well, the hunt continues....

Right Now... It's Snowing Outside

And it's not supposed to stop all night long. So by morning we should have a load of fluff.

Honestly, I'm really happy it finally snowed. Don't get me wrong, I don't really enjoy driving on slippery roads that much, but I do enjoy having winter actually feel like winter. I like having Christmas feel like Christmas. I like clearing the driveway. I like not seeing brown lawns anymore.

woooooh, back up there... I like clear the driveway???

Yup, actually I do. And let me tell you why :)

I think the reason most people don't like clearing the walks is because it's a lot of work. True, it is. But it's also a good excuse to exercise. I always feel better after I've done it. I can actually SEE the results of the work I've just done, unlike laundry and wiping down the kitchen counter it doesn't always get undone within five minutes. Plus I feel like I've helped out Jer. He then doesn't have to stress about doing it after work (after dark) when it's really bitter cold.

It's a nice break from the kidlets... even when they come out with me (in their cute little hats, mittens, and snow gear), the snow mutes their yelling and screaming and they are always happy to be playing in the snow. They seldom fight when they are preoccupied with making snow angels, trying to shovel the snow, and throwing snow at each other. And afterwords we have a nice hot cup of hot chocolate together. When they aren't "helping" me clear the walks it means real utter quiet. Peaceful quiet. Especially if it's still snowing a little bit.

Not just peaceful. That's not quite right. PRISTINE. That's a better word for it.

It's absolutely Pristine. And I love the fact that I have an excuse to take advantage of it.

All I want for Christmas is....

CARDBOARD BABY!!!! Boxes, tubes, whateva!

Keep this in mind Christmas morning: they will probably have more fun with the boxes then they do with the toys....

at least the littlest ones do!

Brrrrrrrr

So right now I'm freezing.

Honestly I don't know if it would matter where I'm located at, this time of night you'll always catch me shivering and looking for my sweater and my slippers (thanks mom they are the best.... and if you are wondering what I'm talking about, you gave them to me about 5 years ago for Christmas... I think, but they are the best and I love them).

Jer on the other hand is always freezing in the morning.

This proves to be a bit of a dilemma, because, you see, I'm always roasting when I wake up for the day. So when he wakes up and tries to snuggle up to me to get warm....

yah.

Well, we'll just say I get warmer and then flip the covers off in exasperation.

Yes, I'm a hypocrite. I admit it...seeing that I put my frozen toes on him every other night or so to get my feet warm.

I have advocated getting an electric blanket for the bed, you know, so that when I get in bed it's already toasty warm and there would be no need to put my aforementioned toecicles on him for warmth.

His response?

"meh"

Then of course there is the covers.....

OH THE COVERS

They are slippery buggers.

They never stay put for more than one night.

The funny thing is.... somehow the top sheet always ends up on my side of the bed and the rest of them end up (you guessed it) on his side of the bed.

I couldn't do that while conscious while lying down if my life depended on it!!!

Unconscious? SURE.

Conscious? no way.

Oh, the SNOW!

So it's finally done it....

it's finally snowed enough here for the kids to actually play in it.

Goober says to me this morning: "Is it Christmas!?"

I had to inform him sadly that it was not... but it would be soon.... Grandpa's and Daddy's birthdays had to come first.... (which is a whole nother post!)

Bee showed up hear bright and early (8:45... and again another post would be needed to get into my thoughts about that) and the kids decided after a relatively short time that it was time to go play in the snow....

And have snow fights.... not snowball fights (cause there weren't any adults outside to make said snowballs) just throwing clumps of snow at each other. Ya know!

And of course eating the snow....
The Energizer Bunny watched the kids play from inside for a while.... then when the kids decided to go to Bee's house and play for a bit his batteries suddenly became low and he needed an early recharge.... so down he went for a nap. So unexpectedly this morning a have a little quiet time :) I'm really glad that EB went down for an early nap though, cause this afternoon we are supposed to go look at more houses.... and that is really NOT fun with a tired baby. So glad mine won't be tired! Yippeee!

Ummmm ... what do you get teachers for Christmas??

I mean REALLY!?!?

I have no clue what to get Goober's teacher for Christmas. NO CLUE. I mean, what do you get for someone you really don't even know as much as an acquaintance?

I have no idea what this lady likes. Hopefully she likes kids (Goober seams to like her, so she must.... right?) I don't want to get her something she is inclined to just throw away. Cause even stuff that you are inclined to throw away cost someone some moola, ya know?

So any ideas people? really, I'm at a total loss here. SPILL IT! :D

Pretty please with sugar on top?

I'm a Geeeeeek!

Or at least more geeky than anyone I've seen yet :) 46%....

Meh.

So the past few months have been kinda odd.

My moods have been in a total funk. I'm not depressed.... well, I am depressed but I have drugs to help that and they are functioning, I'm not sad or down, my moods are just weird lately.

For instance, I usually like to play World of Warcraft with Jer in the evenings. Well, not the last few months. I could take it or leave it. I usually end up playing sudoku or some such thing that has no real goal outside of exercising your noggin. Which is good, mind you, nothing wrong with sudoku, just a little off for me.

I can't decide if it's the fact that my meds are messing me up, or that I'm not in my own home.

Let me make one thing clear. I love my in-laws. They a truly great people. They try really hard to make sure everyone is doing okay. I just think that with my Independence and my pride issues that living with someone else is a bit of a bruiser on the ego, and maybe playing games with my moods? That and the fact that we are having a bit of a challenge finding a house we like in our price range. I'm starting to think that we would have been better off staying in our old house.

Nothing can be done about that though. So it's not really worth dwelling on.

Not really sure what is up though.

I really hope that once we get into our own home again that things return to "normal" and I really hope that it's not too hard on the kids.

So, in case you've notice that I haven't been blogging as much, and I have seamed a little preoccupied... that would be the reasons. :)

P.S. I DID update the hair picture for today, and can I say I'm proud of that hairstyle and the fact that Missy sat still long enough for me to do it!
